Lost Doctor Who adventure resurrected in animated remake

And the character designs came from the comic book artists Martin Geraghty and Adrian Salmon.

Announced today to mark 50 years since it first aired, the complete animated reconstruction of Power of the Daleks – hugely important to fans as it is the first story to feature Patrick Troughton as the second Doctor, marking a major milestone in the show’s history – will be available digitally through the BBC store starting November 5.

“The Power of the Daleks animation is the most ambitious Doctor Who archive restoration ever attempted and we’re all very honoured to be a part of such a an exciting project”.

The Power Of The Daleks will return in black and white after being developed with the use of audio recordings of the programme, surviving photographs and film clips. Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks will premiere on BBC America on November 12 and then become available on the network’s website to stream.

In addition to the story’s release on the 5th November, there will be a special screening of the first three episodes at the BFI in London, which will include a Q&A with Anneke Wills, Charles Norton and Frazer Hines.

It looks like TV viewers are going to get to see new Doctor Who action much earlier than we expected – because the BBC are remaking a classic “lost” episode of the long-running sci-fi series in animated form. However, a series of rather unfortunate events have kept Doctor Who fans from seeing the 1st Doctor regenerate into the 2nd Doctor (Patrick Troughton).

“Intelligent, suspenseful and magnificently staged, Power of the Daleks is one of the great lost classics of 1960s television”, he added. “We are so proud to present this work to our BBCA “Doctor Who” fans, who we think will go insane for this reverent yet shockingly reinvented “mash up”.

Worldwide said it has commissioned an animation studio to recreate the episodes.

While classic episodes of Doctor Who are finding a new lease of life, work is now underway on the 10th series of the regenerated show.
