Lottery fever as record United States jackpot soars to US$800m
Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, says officials with the Multi-State Lottery Association raised the estimated jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing again because of strong sales – but that the $800 million prize could rise again before Saturday’s drawing.

“I’d be so happy for them”, Culver said. If the current pace of ticket sales continues, it should hit $1 billion by the drawing on Saturday night.
With Saturday evening drawing near, it seems more and more people are snatching up Powerball tickets, as the jackpot has grown to $800 million in just one day.
To win the grand prize in Powerball, a participant must match five numbers between 1 and 69 and a sixth number between 1 and 26 drawn separately.

A Portland man has won a $1 million Powerball prize, good for $670,000 after taxes, according to the Oregon Lottery.
Apparently one way not to win is to share your numbers with others. “I have never seen a number that large”.
The previous record was a $656 Mega Millions payout in 2012 given to three separate winners in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland.
But most winners will have a state tax bill to reckon with. She later claimed the $23 million California SuperLotto Plus jackpot as her prize, which led to Michael’s getting a reputation around town for being a lucky store. Even if you and your office buddies split the cost and buy a potpourri of Powerball tickets thus increasing your meager chances just a little more than the next guy – you aren’t going to win.
These tickets are a hot commodity right now, but when Powerball sales go up, stores that sell them need to do things differently.
“I probably would pass out for them”. And some statisticians say the pot could still grow to a billion dollars.
Since the state started playing Powerball, 10 winners have been from Florida, two of them from South Florida.
