Lottery starts for train passes for pope’s Philadelphia visit

The lottery for passes on SEPTA’s rail system during Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia is underway. Now an online lottery has been launched to give consumers another opportunity to purchase tickets. The site, organized by TicketLeap, went live shortly after midnight.

According to The Huffington Post, “the pope will attend the World Meeting of Families gathering in Philadelphia”. It will be his first papal visit to the U.S.

“We have 10,000 passes for the Pennbrook station at 1114 Church road in Lansdale”.

Overwhelming demand forced a halt to ticket sales last week. Only about 200 passes were sold.

The lottery sign-up is open all day Monday and it doesn’t better your chances to sign up earlier in the day.

SEPTA says everyone who enters has an equal shot.

On Thursday winners of the lottery will receive a “congratulations” email with a personalized link to a secure page where they can complete their debit or credit card transaction. The passes cost $10 each.

If you ride the Regional Rail as a regular rider going to work, you have to enter this lottery for a chance at tickets or find another way to work for those two days.

SEPTA instituted the lottery system in hopes that it would even out web traffic. From the master list of lottery victor, Ticketleap will weed out any fraudulent, duplicate or suspicious entries.
