Louis Cardinals activate RHP Adam Wainwright
Obviously concerned with Wainwright’s health going forward, the Cardinals will not only try to avoid another Achilles injury but also related setbacks stemming from weaker muscles in his leg. The Cardinals are expected to officially activate Wainwright Wednesday afternoon.

After throwing 27 pitches during a simulated inning on Saturday, Adam Wainwright only needs a doctor’s OK to return to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Wainwright had made just four starts in 2015 before sustaining a torn Achilles tendon during an at-bat on April 25. He last pitched in relief during the 2006 season when he was on the mound to close out both the World Series and National League Championship Series.
Wainwright has a 2.96 career ERA in 221 games through eight seasons as a starter, but a 3.39 ERA as a reliever.

“The medical staff kept saying, ‘There’s nearly no chance to come back, but let’s keep motivating you, ‘” Wainwright told mlb.com on Tuesday about his faster than expected recovery. “I’m really excited to get back out there”. He has 20 games for the Cardinals twice, and has a lifetime record of 121-67 with a 2.98 ERA in 9 seasons. He made the All-Star team and has come up big in many critical spots.
