Louis Rams vs Tennessee Titans, key matchups to watch

Whisenhunt is looking to find a balance to protect his rookie quarterback and future of the Titans’ franchise.

Despite his early-game woes, Mariota has been named the starter for the Titans this season and will assume that role Sunday.

If the Titans want to remain competitive in this one, they will need to utilize the jumbo package and give more protection and receiving options to Mariota. The Titans still have work to do, as we expect Mariota to struggle against the Rams defense. Fisher said, “We’re going to hold him out this week, but he’s doing well”. “It’s good to be able to have that, and I’m very fortunate”.

Tennessee lost to the Atlanta Falcons, 31-24. I have been this rookie’s biggest endorser this offseason and it looks like he is gaining the approval of many outside of Titans’ training camp as well.

Whisenhunt seems to know better than putting all his eggs in one basket. “So it’ll be a good challenge for our defense”. We were short on some of our feels with our defensive linemen. “Occasionally, we got him”.

“As far as where we put them, we’re experimenting so we don’t necessarily know”, Fisher continued.

-Ryan Succop missed a point after from 33 yards away on his second attempt of the preseason.

With the Titans’ offensive line shuffling, it is not fair to expect them to be flawless , but Whisenhunt needs to see improvement.

Whitehurst is a good guy and a popular player within the team. “He did some good things”. He has just nine interceptions in his four years as a starter. “During the season it is going to cost us games, just like it did (in Atlanta)”. I owe a tremendous amount to the Adams family for the opportunity. “I think he’s shown that he’s progressing”. He is not going to get any better than he is. He’s had a great training camp, and could be a staple in the line rotation this season. “The young man had to get in shape first”.

Rookie QBs like Mariota bear the burden of living up to all their hype, and it’s often unfair when they’re usually drafted at the top (therefore by the worst teams) and are all of a sudden expected to upright a train wreck in process (*cough* David Carr).

The Rams did not cover the spread in their preseason opener.

-TE Delanie Walker had 12 stitches removed from his left hand, but still might not play against the Rams Sunday.

-DT Sammie Hill won’t play this Sunday against the Rams despite returning to practice.

-LB Yannik Cudjoe-Virgil is also out with a hamstring injury suffered against the Falcons. He later completed five passes on an 80-yard touchdown drive.

BATTLE OF THE WEEK: Bishop Sankey vs. David Cobb and Antonio Andrews at running back. The thing reflecting back, it’s the relationships with the players. The Titans are likely to go running back-by-committee, but the pecking order is still to be determined. He also had one rush and that was for negative six yards.
