Paul Scholes branded United’s style of play “boring” earlier this season and following Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Legue One opposition, the former club great claimed both Van Gaal and his players looked “bored” during the third round tie. There are many reasons to leave a stadium at the last minute. “When you don’t score in the first 15 minutes, they keep this [approach] in 90 minutes also because they are getting motivation out of the fact we are not scoring”. The manager also said that anyone who expects him to emulate a certain predecessor will inevitably be disappointed. “We have to beat them”. “We have seen that because he could not move (at the end of the game against the Blades)”.

Van Gaal hinted that Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard could play after coming off the bench against Sheffield United.
