Louis van Gaal gives Manchester United injury update ahead of Liverpool clash

United have now failed to find a win in any of their last three matches across all competitions, with the pressure mounting on Louis van Gaal’s employment each week.

The Belgium worldwide has been deployed as a target man at times this season by Van Gaal, scoring two goals and Fowler thinks he could be the difference.

“We need their support also because their impact is big”. It looks like he is connecting the players with the manager, and that is always something that is very good to see.

“Since I was here we have played Liverpool five times and won four”.

Sitting alongside the 25-year-old, manager Jurgen Klopp commented, “We will decide with our performance tomorrow how good the atmosphere is”.

Van Gaal believes keeping a clean sheet could be the crucial factor in his side’s hopes of success, as he suggested the tie could go into extra time.

The Reds take a 2-0 lead into the Round of 16 game following a rousing display at Anfield last week, when goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino were the least they deserved.

“The trip was a little different because we usually fly rather than go by coach but the rest is exactly like a normal European game”.

“We don’t want to concede a goal”.

“We have to believe in it”, Van Gaal said on Wednesday.

“It was a good night for us last week”.

“I think we’ve just got to prepare on what we want to do in the game”.

Herrera underlined the importance of the Old Trafford faithful and spoke of how much the players want to win for them, adding: “We know [what this means to the fans] because we have done it already”.

“It’s all about us and I’m sure if we’re firing at all cylinders – like we were last week – [then] I don’t think many teams can live with us really”. Left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson could, however, be involved after coming back after a month on the sidelines. Klopp said: “Surprised? No. What can I say?”

“They are training now with us but you have to build up more than only one training session or two training sessions”. We made the best thing we could do in the first game. We have to work really hard and be really concentrated, fearless and aggressive in a legal way.

Meanwhile, Klopp insists Liverpool’s trip to Old Trafford will be “no holiday” despite holding a significant advantage.

Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Klopp (above, left) has questioned the consistency of UEFA’s disciplinary procedures after Marouane Fellaini was cleared of elbowing Emre Can.

United midfielder Ander Herrera claimed his side would be comforted playing at home because the “grass is better” than at Anfield.
