Louis van Gaal hints at resignation in post-match press conference
Louis van Gaal has dropped Wayne Rooney to the bench for Manchester United’s clash with Stoke City.

United have now failed to secure a win in seven games and they looked lifeless yet again with Van Gaal’s job on the line.
United have faced some heavy criticism, and their manager Louis van Gaal is under considerable pressure, after a poor run of results and longer spell of uninspiring performances.
United, who have slipped out the Premier League’s top four and been eliminated from the Champions League this month, are next in action on Monday, when they welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford.
Van Gaal later explained Rooney’s omission to the BBC.
Rooney, who has scored only two league goals this season, was the only change Van Gaal made to the team beaten 2-1 at home by Norwich City last weekend.
The biggest indictment of the malaise afflicting England’s biggest club was Van Gaal’s belief that his expensively-assembled team “did not dare to play football in the first half”. Memphis’s freaky attempt at a defensive diving header presented the ball to Johnson, who pulled the ball back for the striker to prod in, with David de Gea stranded.
“It is very hard as I’m also part of four losses and I have to cope with that and I have to manage that”.
United were stunned six minutes later when Bojan’s free kick was blocked and Arnautovic thundered a shot past De Gea.
“It’s another situation, we have lost the fourth game, we will have to wait and see”, he added with a lingering glare towards the reporter.
And the United boss told Sky Sports after the reverse at the Britannia Stadium: “I try to do everything but the pressure shall be every match higher and higher”.

Rooney must have thought he had thrown his side a lifeline when he cut the ball back for the unmarked Marouane Fellaini, but from eight yards out the Belgian was thwarted by a one-handed save from Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland.
