Louis van Gaal resignation reports quashed
Van Gaal returned to Manchester on Monday night after flying to the Netherlands on Sunday for his daughter’s birthday.

“Considering the dearth of quality options available to Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal in the final third of the pitch, a move to Old Trafford has been mooted – but it is one that continues to be quashed by La Liga expert Guillem Balague”.
Van Gaal was expected to hold fresh talks with United’s hierarchy yesterday when he took over first-team training.
Louis van Gaal has been under constant scrutiny this term and reports even emerged that he offered to tender his resignation in the wake of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Southampton.
But according to the Daily Mirror, United chiefs fear Giggs may decide to walk away if Van Gaal quits.
The Dutchman’s future remains shrouded in uncertainty but Woodward has shown considerable patience in the man he appointed 18 months ago.
“They have – or they had – great expectations of me, and I can not fulfil them”.
Woodward told Van Gaal to speak to his family before making a decision over his future, the newspaper said.
As well as booing, chants of “attack, attack, attack” have been heard coming from the Old Trafford stands, but Van Gaal’s team – featuring a host of big-money signings – have generally been unable to make a positive response.
Some reservations persist about the controversial Portuguese, though.
Van Gaal’s side are next in action in Friday’s FA Cup fourth-round trip to Championship side Derby County.
They had three points more at the same stage of the season that Moyes – sacked in April of the campaign – was in charge, and were still in the Champions League.

The loss to Southampton left United in fifth place in the league table, trailing leaders Leicester City by 10 points and five points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
