David Munns, chairman of the MITS Award committee, said: “We are delighted to honour Simon Cowell with the Music Industry Trusts Award for 2015″.

“Oh I don’t know”, Louis said of a return to the X Factor this year.

Cowell also joked that he loved doing his job, which allows him to get up at 1 or 2 p.m., and he‎ quipped that he has made the inventor of Botox a lot of money.

Leona Lewis, who became Cowell’s protege after winning The X Factor in 2006, also sang at the event.

Speaking to the publication at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, Walsh – who was a judge on the ITV talent show for a decade before being replaced by Nick Grimshaw – said he was enjoying watching the TV show at home.

Winfrey said: “He has turned honesty into an art form”.

Cowell’s vision for a dance-focused version of the X-Factor first came to public attention in 2012, but it was earlier this year that excitement really ramped up.

Walsh will now be back as a judge on the X Factor – but only for a day.

But this isn’t a permanent return for Louis, he won’t appear on screen and will only be sitting on the panel for a dress rehearsal. After a bidding war, Cowell took away the prize for £50,000.

Past recipients of the award include Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Gary Barlow and Annie Lennox. The evening was hosted by radio presenter Jo Whiley. It produces ‎the X Factor and Got Talent formats, ‎ among other things. His television production and music publishing house Syco, a joint venture with Sony Music, has signed artists including One Direction, Little Mix, Susan Boyle, Ella Henderson, Illinois Divo, Labrinth, Fifth Harmony and Collabro.
