The speculation about Nick and Louis’ respective roles on the show have flared up in recent week, and rumours of the Irish-man’s return hit fever-point after his appearance on ITV’s Loose Women last week.

But while a confirmation of Louis being re-hired wasn’t forthcoming, Simon strongly hinted at it, saying: ‘If I thought the viewers would like to see him on a few of the live shows, why not?’

Adding that he loved the show, Louis gushed: ‘It’s the best show in the world – it’s the most talked about TV show – there are three or four acts on the show this year that are incredible’.
