Louisiana capital city struggles with 2 weeks of violence

“There is a mistrust – and justifiably so – on the part of our young black men and law enforcement”, said Wesley. But that history – and the racial divide in nearby Baton Rouge – seem remote here. Brandon Hollis tore a ligament in his knee.

A NATION desperately in need of healing instead has more lives to grieve after a shooting Sunday in Baton Rouge, La., left three law enforcement officers dead and three wounded. Jackson was a 10-year veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department.

“My deputy went down fighting”, Gautreaux said.

The mayor says Tullier was taken off of life-support machines on Tuesday, but that he was still alive.

Photographs of the three-page letter show it was signed by “Cosmo”, the first name of an alias used by Baton Rouge gunman Gavin Long, and the pictures were attached to an email sent from a Google address that Long used. “I see my actions as a necessary evil that I do not wish to partake in, nor do I enjoy partaking in, but must partake in, in order to create substantial change within America’s police force, and judicial system”.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the letter from Yarima Karama, the OH man who said he didn’t know Long personally, but received several emails from him after Long began commenting on Karama’s YouTube videos in March. That shooting, captured on cellphone video, provoked widespread protests about police treatment of the black community.

Gerald, a 41-year-old father of two, served in the Marines and the Army before joining the police force a year ago.

“But the president dedicated a lot of time to this, both in substance and in symbolism”, Earnest told Fox News’ Kevin Corke during Monday’s White House briefing.

He was not alone during his stay in Baton Rouge, a law enforcement source told CNN. Protests rocked the city following the July 5 death of a black man during a confrontation with two white police officers. It is the gun that fired the shots that killed the law enforcement officers.

Holden said he was working with the Justice Department to develop new tools to improve relations between the police and the community.

Former Sergeant Gavin Eugene Long of Kansas City, Missouri, an Iraq war veteran with ties to an African-American anti-government group, seemed determined to slay as many police officers as possible before a SWAT team marksman cut short his attack on Sunday, according to police officials’ account the next day.

Kip Holden, a Democrat who is term-limited as mayor, qualified Wednesday for the 2nd District congressional race, challenging Democratic incumbent Cedric Richmond.

Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Don Coppola did not know the extent of the injuries or the precise number of officers injured. The single gunshot that killed Long, 29, was sacked by an officer from about 100 yards away, police said on Monday as they deepened their investigation into the second racially charged armed assault on US law enforcement this month.

While State Police Col. Mike Edmonson made it clear that police officers were Long’s main target, his motive for attacking police is still somewhat unclear.

SHOCKED residents gathered in churches, at community vigils and a motorcycle rally in Baton Rouge to pay tribute to the three police officers who were killed in an ambush by a gunman. Services will start at 2 p.m. There will be no graveside service, but there will be a processional from the church to Greenoaks Funeral Home.

Garafola’s family wanted a collage of family photos inside, Ganem said.

After expressing their sorrow and condemning the killing of police officers, Together Baton Rouge made an announcement Tuesday.
