From the party’s former presidents to the host state governor, many leaders were staying away from the convention stage, or Cleveland altogether, wary of being linked to a man whose proposals and temperament have sparked an identity crisis within the GOP. The Dayton Daily News reports he had an unexcused absence from electronic monitoring while meeting last week with an academic adviser.
The convention begins Monday and ends Thursday, and Vermonters-along with the rest of the country- are paying close attention.

“What will happen on the floor, if there’s any attempt, is the party and Trump are going to rise against it”, Manafort said.
Expect Trump’s supporters to voice overwhelming support for police officers and overwhelming opposition to stricter gun control measures, in line with the NRA. “I’ve got to mow my lawn”, said Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.
Leading up to Monday, anti-Trump forces repeatedly voiced suspicions that party leaders and the campaign would do whatever possible to subvert their effort.
“The Trump team is confident they’re going to be able to shut them down”. From the moment he announced his candidacy with a promise of a wall along America’s Southern border, Trump has won support and stirred controversy with his off-the-cuff speaking style.

About a dozen are legally carrying guns near downtown Cleveland, but there’s no obvious sign of a police presence. “Not just what he was able to do in getting more votes than any Republican in the history of our party, but do it with 16 people running”.
John Kasich do not plan on showing their faces at the convention.
He issued statements on Twitter on Sunday, a day before the start of the four-day Republican Convention in Cleveland this week due to formally nominate him for the White House. “We need to temper our words and open our hearts, all of us”, Obama told reporters. He continues to ask the governor to stop allowing people to open carry in Cleveland, as the state usually allows. An estimated 100 people gathered downtown on Saturday against racism and xenophobia, rallying for eight hours amid speeches from prominent activists like Cornel West.
