“We spoke for a long time Friday morning about their desire to be helpful”, Edwards said.
Prior to Trump’s visit to Louisiana, Edwards, a Democrat, appeared initially skeptical of the campaign’s motives behind the visit.
Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, a Republican, also praised Trump’s trip Saturday on CNN’s New Day as helping lift the spirits of the flood victims.

Trump handed about a dozen boxes of Play-Doh and some toys, and then it was back to the Trump plane.
Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) announced today that it will donate $500,000 to the American Red Cross and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to support local flooding disaster relief assistance in Louisiana.
“Our Governor literally told him…that Trump is welcome in our state but if he’s coming he better be volunteering or writing a sizable check to assist with recovery”, said Butkus.
The responses of politicians including Trump and President Obama to the flooding in Louisiana – and the public’s response to their responses – demonstrate how quickly a disaster can turn political, as politicians walk the thin line between engaging with affected areas and drawing attention for personal gain. “We have no sewage”, Lambert said. “And you said you wished trump would make a donation to a relief effort instead”.
