Louisiana state trooper Steven Vincent has been shot dead

Kevin Daigle’s criminal history, provided to The Associated Press by law enforcement officials across two parishes in southwest Louisiana, was lengthy.

Alcohol was the switch, according to Daigle’s sister-in-law. Edmonson said the gunshot “messed up (Vincent’s) neurological output”, leaving the trooper in critical condition Sunday. “All I could see was pure evil in his eyes”. We didn’t know if he had weapons on him still, he could have had a gun on his waistband. Vincent had been trying to help a man whose pickup truck was stuck sideways in a ditch, Col. Mike Edmonson said.

The Calcasieu Parish man accused in the shooting death of State Police Trooper Steven Vincent is suspected in a second slaying after investigators on Monday found the shooter’s presumed roommate dead inside a Moss Bluff home. Vincent died Monday.

The man, armed with a shotgun, then fired at Vincent, hitting him in the head, police said.

He’d been arrested a dozen times. He already had faced charges including attempted first-degree murder of a police officer.

Edmonson said Daigle had several findings of driving under the influence on his record and other arrests that he wouldn’t discuss because he didn’t know whether they resulted in convictions.

“He burned his old mother’s house”.

“You could hear him (Daigle) breathing, telling him, ‘You’re lucky”. The nonprofit Baton Rouge Capital Conflict Office will handle Daigle’s defense, sheriff’s spokeswoman Kim Myers said. When he was drinking or messed up.

“But at the same time it makes you feel like you didn’t do enough”.

Kevin Daigle, 54, of Lake Charles, La, is suspected of shooting and killing a Louisiana State Police trooper.

A passing motorist stopped and confronted Daigle and, with the help of others who also stopped, restrained him with Vincent’s handcuffs.

In a press conference on Monday, authorities revealed Daigle’s roommate was found dead in his Moss Bluff home on Monday.

It’s not clear if Daigle was staying with Brewer on a permanent or temporary basis, Mancuso told reporters Monday.

Daigle had his first hearing Tuesday, in the jail where he’s been detained. His public defender didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. It was his lifelong dream to become a Louisiana State Trooper.

Burial at the Lacassine Cemetery on U.S. 90 will follow the funeral, which is located at the church at 3939 Lake Street in Lake Charles.

“A hero saves somebody’s life, and in the end I couldn’t”, LeDoux said, getting choked up as he spoke about knowing the Vincent family.

“It’s hard for us to believe that he did this”.

According to Sheriff Tony Mancuso, the vehicle that was found in the ditch, which led to troopers being called to the scene Sunday, was registered to a person who lived in the 1400 block of Holly Vale Road. “But yet, we were always scared that he might do something”.
