Lowell Cohn: Warriors need to go all-out for 73rd win

The win was Golden State’s record-equalling 72nd victory of the National Basketball Association season, improving to 72-9 to match the league record for regular-season wins set by the 72-10 Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan in 1995-96.

Much of the credit for Golden State’s victory on Sunday goes to Stephen Curry, the Warriors’ transcendent point guard, and his 37 points, 16 of them in a pivotal stretch of the third quarter.

Golden State came into the season after winning the fourth championship in franchise history and the second since the Warriors lit out of Philadelphia to head west. They posted the second-best number ever recorded (1839) last December, shortly after opening the season 24-0 with a 124-119 win over Boston. The Spurs lockdown on defence, play at a snail’s pace on offence to get the game off the Warriors’ terms, and have significant height advantages on Golden State’s death line-up, enabling them to play volleyball at the rim. How many of us have seen so many of our fellow high school classmates, parents, siblings, colleagues etc. try to be flawless? Duncan is virtually unplayable against Golden State when Steph is on the court.

“The schedule’s insane and obviously we’re right in the middle of the season, so there are times where you might wake up and not want to get out of bed or whatever, but it is helpful to remember how I felt as a kid and the stuff my dad taught me, and be reminded the importance of the stage and the platform we have”, he said. They snapped a Spurs NBA-best record of 48 consecutive wins at home.

If you fancy yourself a sports aficionado, there are few better places to turn than the Golden State Warriors for a genuine spectacle.

“We have an opportunity to do something that has never been done in history”, Curry said.

The three-point shot is a weapon that the Warriors like to use often, and they won a championship with a team of shooters.

“It would have been cool to take care of the games we were supposed to take care of and have it already out of the way, but the way this thing has played out to be at home and have one shot it, it’s pretty awesome”, Warriors power forward Draymond Green said.

“You need luck in the West”, Rivers said. Stephen Curry was just a shooter. Frankly, Leonard would be the MVP in most seasons, considering the Spurs have also had a historically great regular season and he’s the best player on the team.

“That’s how I grew up”, Curry told USA Today. He’s mentioned recently that if he gets to 399 3-pointers on the season, he’s going to start chucking for that final make. I mean, I think if I can keep him under 20 (points), I think I’m doing good… He will undergo additional treatment and rest over the next several days and is expected to be fully available for the start of playoff practice and preparation later this week, the Cavs said. The teams that win championships, they don’t put those other banners up there. In the Eastern Conference, all the playoff teams are set, but the seeding could change. With the prediction of a win tonight, heck let’s predict another triple double for Mr. Green!

The defending champions will finish the regular season at home against Memphis on Wednesday night. When asked about a hypothetical matchup between his Warriors and the Bulls, Kerr responded by bringing up the argument of the rules that they would play by, and that it is too hard to even envision a matchup because it has been twenty years.
