Thanksgiving travel estimates are up slightly this year, with cheaper gas prices likely to prompt many New Jersey residents to go “over the river and through the woods”. Amid the trimmings, airlines are expecting to average 65,000 more passengers each day than previous year around the holiday. AAA Texas on Tuesday announced the anticipated statewide travel numbers for the period beginning Wednesday, November 25, through Sunday, November 29. Garcetti said between November 20 through November 30, they are projecting that 2.1 million people will travel through LAX. It’s great news for the local economy, but also a warning about what it may be like if you’re flying this holiday season. And 1.4 million holiday travelers will opt for alternative modes of transportation such as cruises, trains and buses – a 1.4 percent dip from a year ago. Most US drivers will pay the lowest Thanksgiving gas prices since 2008.

Those who need to fly could see airfares 10 percent lower than this time a year ago, according to AAA’s Leisure Travel Index. Today’s national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $2.15, 65 cents less than the average price on Thanksgiving past year ($2.80). Rates for AAA Three Diamond Rated lodgings are expected to remain relatively flat, with travelers spending an average of $155 per night. The average rate for a AAA Two Diamond Rated hotel has risen four percent with an average nightly cost of $118. “That is a slight increase of 1 percent from those who traveled for Thanksgiving 2014”.
