LSU coach Les Miles won’t name starting QB for Mississippi State – yet

Instead, he is the toast of Baton Rouge at the moment, which tells you just how bad the quarterbacks and passing games have been at LSU since 2008 with the exception of the first part of the 2011 season with Jarrett Lee and all of 2013 with Zach Mettenberger.

Miles was hit with numerous questions concerning who will start next behind center, but provided no real information, saying LSU will need both quarterbacks to be successful this season.

The answer was no, at least against the Badgers. Against Wisconsin, Harris threw three times in the first half.

-Will the rebuilt offensive line find early season continuity after some shuffling during preseason camp?

It may have ended just as it started, but who knows?

This high-powered air raid within the Zips’ (1-0) spread offense should be the greatest test for a Badgers defense that held then-No. Hell, I’m probably missing this game live myself, as I’ll be spending the day working in my house (hopefully the only home game I miss).

Guice scored on a 4-yard TD after the Gamecocks’ Al Harris Jr., thrice penalized in the opener, was called for pass interference, but Jax State immediately answered with a 76-yard catch-and-run by Krenwick Sanders on a nifty toss from Jenkins, cutting the LSU lead to 13-10. “That definitely hurts because I know how hard the whole team worked the whole time”.

It snuffed out LSU’s chance to steal a victory, the kind of theft Miles’ teams have committed many a time over the last dozen years when seemingly outplayed and, yes, outschemed. “It’s a hurtful feeling”.

Fournette accounted for 176 of LSU’s 257 total yards against Wisconsin, a season after leading the FBS in rushing yards per game (162.8).

He tweaked an ankle on his last carry, a 15-yard run to Wisconsin’s 30-yard line, and had to come out of the game.

“We’ve got to come out and play like we’re in the playoffs every game”, Adams said.

Wisconsin: Houston. The senior had his moments against LSU but also threw two costly interceptions. If Etling can restore LSU’s trust in the quarterback position – yes, if is a key word here – there are plenty of games to be won on this schedule.

The lost opportunity felt eerily like a few games in 2015, when the team’s porous defense blew a two-touchdown lead against Memphis in a road loss and gave up 53 points in an overtime loss to Arkansas. “Obviously it sucks that he got injured with what he did, but he’s a guy that’s still around helping the next man in”.

Etling finished 6-of-14 passing for 100 yards with one passing touchdown and a 2-yard bootleg score in the third quarter.

“I feel like they (Jacksonville State) were wore down after the first quarter”, said Guice. Under NCAA rules, they were required to clear the field.

The Frogs moved 80 yards in seven plays to pull within 20-14 with 9:44 remaining and, after forcing a three-and-out, raced from their own 16 to the end zone again, mostly on the legs of lightning bug KaVontae Turpin. LSU had three sacks, but didn’t consistently put pressure on the passer or penetrate the line on running plays.

“They have a lot of guys that transferred in, so we’re looking forward to the challenge”, LSU safety Jamal Adams said.

That won’t happen too often in conference play, when the Tigers will face teams bigger and stronger and deeper than the one they just beat.
