After all of the talk about Florida being “scared” to play LSU in Baton Rouge stemming from the infamous rescheduling fiasco – and then a pre-game scuffle erupted between members of both teams – the Gators had plenty to prove against the Tigers. 10-13 Florida at 4:37 in the 4th QTR. The Tigers handed the ball off and he is stopped no good the Gators win the game on the goal line!
This game was originally scheduled on October 8 in Gainesville but all the circumstances of Hurricane Matthew changed things.
Soon, LSU tailback Leonard Fournette could be seen on video pushing Florida defensive backs coach Torrian Gray in the fray.
Senior linebacker Kendall Beckwith left the game in the first half with an injury. The Razorbacks averaged 9.9 yards per play, never punted and recorded 27 first downs.
Fournette is indeed dressed and playing for the Tigers. On fourth down with just three seconds on the clock, LSU called on Derrius Guice to try and jump over the line.
Florida was led by running back Jordan Scarlett with 108 yards on 22 carries. Quarterback Austin Appleby threw for 46 yards outside of touchdown completion to Cleveland.
One minute later, LSU was faced with a fourth down and 10 from the 49-yard line. There was also the matter of all the chatter suggesting Florida had tried to dodge LSU some six weeks ago and had used the storm as an excuse. “We’re not supposed to allow points, no matter if it’s a field goal or a touchdown”.
However, on Saturday against Florida, Key became the fourth player in program history to record double-digit sacks. The Arkansas loss looks bad, but they bounced back from it pretty well, and against LSU, the Gators clinched their division with a dramatic goal-line stand.
“I’m excited about the future”, McElwain said after the 16-10 upset of 14-point favorite LSU in Tiger Stadium. The drive was highlighted by a 29-yard pass to Guice from Etling on 2nd-and-10 at the LSU 20. However, Guice fumbled the ball away on a first-and-goal carry.
The teams traded possessions for the remainder of the half before going into the locker room with LSU holding a 7-3 advantage. Etling took another deep shot, this time to Dupre. They had 423 total yards, 219 rushing and 204 passing. When LSU emerged for the kickoff, Fournette was in full gear.
However, after Orgeron was unable to steer the Tigers to a win over Alabama-the biggest flaw in Miles’s recent résumé-the general consensus was he needed to win out to get the head coaching job for good.
LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye kicks a 22 yard field goal to tie the game. Many of Scarlett’s yards were after initial contact.
Though Jackson was not available for interviews after the game, White said he felt like his teammate was able to move past the first gaffe. We just kept moving our feet, and then we saw the ref say he didn’t get it. But after a pregame shoving match that involved players and assistant coaches, Fournette suited up. “The way I look at it, they got what they deserved”.
