LSU Quarterback Brandon Harris Benched Against Jacksonville State

Wisconsin scored one of the biggest wins on opening weekend in Lambeau Field against LSU.

The Mid-American Conference football game with the most intrigue this week has the Akron Zips (1-0) on the road at surprising, and now nationally ranked No. 10 Wisconsin (1-0). That mere fact is impressive, but the additional weight of 14 straight losses to LSU and 11 straight in Tiger Stadium makes it even more so. A respectable showing might be staying within three touchdowns.

“Why can’t LSU get it right on offense?”

The defense was better than Harris and the offensive line, but still not good enough for LSU to win a game it had every opportunity to win. “But we’re awfully productive in traditional sets”. But that was his first playing time.

“[Fournette] told me, ‘Don’t be nervous, do what we always do and just seize the moment because it’s here now, and you can’t turn back, ‘” Guice said of Fournette’s advice to him. LSU fans voice their displeasure with loud boos before Etling was inserted into the game to a thunderous roar and provided immediate dividends.

LSU running back Leonard Fournette will not play in Saturday night’s home opener against Jacksonville State as he continues to nurse a left ankle injury. Running back Leonard Fournette had 23 rushes for 138 yards and added three catches for 38 yards.

Jacksonville State (1-1) outgained LSU 87 yards to 12 in the first quarter and had six first downs to zero, but it was only in the game briefly after Etling’s entry. Jenkins completed 17 of 35 passes for 248 yards with a touchdown and an interception while rushing for 82 yards on 18 carries. However, continued quarterback issues has put Miles’ job in jeopardy. It’s as fundamental as something we’ll do today.

LSU rallied from a 13-point deficit Saturday at Lambeau Field before Wisconsin placekicker Rafael Gaglianone made a 47-yard field goal that proved to be the game victor, as LSU lost its season opener for the first time since 2002.

Tiger Stadium with downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the north, obscured by rain. Guice brought the crowd to their feet with a 32 yard run on first down. “He just said go out and be yourself and make some nice decisions”. He threw nicely to wide receiver Malachi Dupre deep on the next play, but Dupre dropped it for his third drop the season. LSU owns 72-34-3 record against the Bulldogs.

Against Jacksonville State, Maea Teuhema replaced Boutte, but Miles did not indicate who will start this week.

With Miles very much on the hot seat in the early part of the 2016 college football season, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Tigers go with Etling the rest of the way in this home opener. His legs are maybe more unsafe, as he ran for 195 yards. Two plays later, Guice hauled in Etling’s short throw and raced down to the two yard line. The pace of the team’s offense – the Tigers ran an eye-opening 100 plays in the loss – was an encouraging sign that Odom is willing to push the tempo. JSU fields several transfers from top-tier Football Bowl Subdivision programs, including former LSU receiver Kevin Spears, who caught two passes for 51 yards. Last year’s game came down to a field goal at the end which Mississippi State missed, losing 21-19. He wouldn’t have a single completion in the second half. “We are not turning our back in any way at the competition at that position”.

The proud league had a 6-6 record in nonconference games, well below its 80-plus winning percentage in nonconference games since 2006. Lance Kendricks was the last Badger to do so, when he picked up 103 yards against Austin Peay. Wisconsin was just 3-for-15 on third down against LSU, and they managed 339 yards. “I think that the spread isolates people a bit more”.

Miles said he wants a fast start from Etling against Mississippi State.

He obviously liked what he saw in Guice, who previous year rushed for 436 yards and averaged 8.5 yards per attempt in making the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team.
