LSU rallies past Rice 5-2 to win Baton Rouge Regional

While Deichmann came through with the pivotal two-run homer to put LSU on top, there were other key contributors in the lineup that helped the Tigers ensure a win.

“He changed the game for us”, Robertson said. Bryce Jordan started the inning with a sacrifice fly to pull the Tigers to 2-1, and Deichmann pushed his RBI total to 23 in his past 19 games. He was able to get the Tigers to swing at the cheap stuff and induce their own ground outs and pop ups, facing only one batter over the minimum through the first 6 innings. He came into the game in the third inning with the Tigers trailing 2-0 and held the Owls to only one hit over the next six innings.

Lancaster got the force out at second and threw the ball to first in time but Kevin Woodall couldn’t keep his foot on the bag to complete the inning-ending double play.

“I wasn’t going to take him out and have 10,000 fans yelling at me”, said LSU head coach Paul Mainieri about staying with Poche.

Madison Stokes drove in three runs and SC won its fourth straight to capture the NCAA Tournament’s Columbia Regional with a 10-5 victory over UNC Wilmington on Tuesday. The Baton Rouge Regional has been plagued by rain, with delays each day since Friday.

Coastal Carolina reached the super regionals for the first time since 2010 with a 7-5 victory over North Carolina State with a four-run ninth inning.

Alex Box Stadium has been kind to LSU, both in the final games of the regular season and in the Regional. Game 2 will be played at 8 p.m. Sunday on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Earlier in the game on Monday night, N.C. State tied the game at 3 in the bottom of the sixth when third baseman Evan Mendoza bounced to short.

The Atlantic Coast Conference set a record with 10 teams making the national tournament, but the league has only four remaining after regionals.
