LSU’s Leonard Fournette tops 200-yard mark for third straight game
Fournette highlighted his third straight 200-yard game with a 75-yard touchdown run, and No. 9 LSU overcame a fitful performance to beat Eastern Michigan 44-22 on Saturday night.

And now, a few folks are saying Fournette should skip next season so he won’t get hurt playing for LSU and remain healthy for the 2017 NFL Draft. LSU’s poor special teams play contributed to the first touchdown as Eddie Daugherty returned LSU’s kickoff after that field goal for 37 yards to the Eastern Michigan 41.
“Leonard’s liable to do that at any time”, Miles said.
Syracuse’s tradition is based on its stellar running backs from the past, the great Jim Brown, Heisman Trophy victor Ernie Davis and Floyd Little, a three-time All-American in the mid-1960s.
In his past three games, Fournette also has posted single-game rushing totals of 244 yards at Syracuse and 228 yards against Auburn.
“Not to sound cocky or anything, or confident, but yeah, I do feel like I could have come out my senior year of high school and played in the National Football League”, said Peterson in between talks about the upcoming game against the Denver Broncos.
“If our coaches think they can attack on the ground, they will”, Dupre said, adding that Tigers receivers “have not been able to showcase our talent yet”.
“He’s doing what we expect him to do, and he’s expected to do it more regularly”, Miles said.
PASSING QUESTIONS: LSU hasnt had to throw much to win so far and might not have to this weekend, either. Usually sure-handed wide receiver Travin Dural dropped two passes right in his hands in the first half. “We’d have thrown for 150 or 200 if we’d just caught balls”.
After beginning the season on a blistering pace, it’s quite possible that nothing will stop this guy.
Then the Eagles closed the half with two touchdowns within 38 seconds of one another to cut LSU’s lead to a shocking 17-14 with 2:10 to play before halftime. Kind of took my cue from the LSU Tigers’ effort Saturday night against Eastern Michigan. He was under 100 yards at the half, but ended the day on a very high note with 235 yards on 28 carries with three touchdowns.
Eastern Michigan is 127th for last in the nation in rush defense with 373.3 yards allowed a game.
The march was sparked by a 23-yard run from Fournette and a third-down, 28-yard pass from Harris to tight end Colin Jeter. Short kickoffs by Trent Domingue led to long kickoff returns by EMU and forced LSU to switch to Cameron Gamble, who was flagged for delay of game, of all things, before one kick. “Again, we didn’t necessarily protect him perfectly”.
LSU quarterback Brandon Harris rushed for a 21-yard TD. Jackson plowed in from the 1 to make it 17-14.
The Tigers looked sloppy at times and suffered another seven penalties.
Miles has not had much trouble with opponents like Eastern Michigan. “I anticipate those kind of things will happen”.
