LSU standout Fournette offers to auction off jersey for South Carolina relief

The game between LSU and South Carolina was originally supposed to take place in South Carolina, but because of the flooding and weather conditions, the teams agreed it would be best to move the game to LSU’s stadium.

“It doesn’t really excite me”.

-Lewis looming: Junior college transfer Marquavius Lewis, who has started all six games since arriving on campus, had his most active game of the season and recorded his first sack along the way. It’s never about me. What they are going through reminds me of what we went through…

South Carolina planned to resume classes Monday, and Tanner said he was optimistic South Carolina would be able to host next week’s game against Vanderbilt.

The purple No. 7 jersey Fournette wore will be used to help at least a few Gamecocks fans.

Despite Fournette’s good intentions of auctioning his jersey for the benefit of the people of South Carolina, he said later in the locker room that he was told the NCAA won’t let him do it. Fournette knows something about that, as well, as he and his family were forced out of New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina when he was just 10 years old. LSU scored again at the beginning of the 4th quarter to make the score 45-24 and put the game out of reach for the Gamecocks.

If LSU continues to find production in both the passing and running game and improves its play in the secondary, there may not be a team in America that can beat the Bayou Bengals. The sophomore Heisman Trophy candidate was held to 49 yards on 15 carries in the first half but finished with 158 yards despite sitting out most of the second half.

Particularly after kickoff. LSU inhospitably held the Gamecocks to 74 rushing yards on the day on 20 carries while the Tigers gained 624 yards of total offense – their most in an SEC game since getting 630 in a 42-13 win over Ole Miss in 1987. “We walked past an LSU fraternity house and they were yelling Tiger Bait and we expected that”, Touchton said. “We just tried our hardest to stay fresh, tried out hardest to get off blocks”. LSU (5-0, 3-0) followed it with another big play, this time a 62-yard scoring pass from Harris to Travin Dural.

“This is the winning formula”. Harris completed 17 of 29 pass attempts for 229 yards, a new career high, and two touchdowns. “We’ve just got to go back to work”.

While the game may have been odd for LSU fans, South Carolina quarterback Perry Orth took note of the welcoming environment. He was intercepted once.

The equalizer for South Carolina was freshman cornerback Rashad Fenton’s 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 7:27 left in the second quarter, which cut the LSU lead from 14-3 to 14-10.

Orth finished 14-of-28 for 200 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Orth quickly led South Carolina 61 yards in three plays, connecting with Pharoh Cooper on 43 yard touchdown pass for the final Gamecocks touchdown of the day with 39 seconds to play in the 3 quarter.
