LSU star Leonard Fournette injures his ankle in practice

LSU running back Leonard Fournette suffered an ankle injury and is now nursing the injury in a boot. The “LSU injury” alarms first went off when No. 7 was reported to be in a walking boot.

“We got a little nicked up (in Tuesday’s practice)”, Miles said.

“In (Fournette’s) words, it’s not (serious)”, Miles said, “he’ll be fine”. Derrius Guice is the top backup to Fournette and would nearly certainly dominate if Fournette should surprisingly miss regular season time.

During a post-practice news conference on Tuesday, Miles revealed to the media that the Tigers’ junior Heisman hopeful suffered a lower ankle sprain on a “up the middle, 8-12 yard carry”, Miles said, then a defender fell on Fournette’s leg.

Fournette was downright dominant in 2015, rushing 300 times for 1,953 yards and 22 touchdowns. Defensive end Christian LaCouture was lost for the season after tearing his ACL tear and linebacker Corey Thompson will miss at least another month with a leg injury. The Tigers open the season against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on September 3.

Losing Fournette would be the ultimate disappointment, but there have been enough injuries in camp to raise concern already.
