Currently, the voice of Lucky the Leprechaun is voiceover artist Doug Preis, though the character has also been voiced by actor Jason Graae.
Years before he auditioned for the leprechaun spot, Anderson performed alongside, and for actor/producer Orson Welles on radio and TV, appearing in a number of Welles’ “Mercury Theater” productions. Other appearances include Woody Allen’s “Zelig” in 1983, “Midnight Cowboy” in 1969, as well as television shows “Car 54, Where Are You?” and “Law & Order”.
Anderson is survived by daughter, Amy Anderson, according to an obituary in the New York Times. A friend of Anderson’s confirmed his death to the New York Times.
Anderson revealed in the interview that he was not Irish, though “I had the luck of the Irish to get that part”. After his stint on Broadway, Anderson worked on radio shows Uncle Nick Kenny’s Radio Kindergarten and Let’s Pretend.
“‘For more than 50 years, generations of Americans have known that Lucky Charms are “Magically Delicious!” and we have Arthur’s voice to thank for that”‘. He said he was constantly stopped and asked to do the jingle for the General Mills breakfast cereal.
“I never got free cereal”, Anderson told ABC News. He said they are planning to give him a heartfelt sendoff.
In a 2009 film “Me and Orson Welles” a composite character based partly on Anderson was played by Zac Efron.
