Lucroy held out of Brewers’ starting lineup

Arguably the top prize in this year’s MLB trade season, Jonathan Lucroy, the 30-year-old catcher was drafted in the third round of the 2007 MLB draft, and made his major-league debut with the Brewers in May of 2010 at the age of 23.

It is now unclear which teams are involved in talks for Johnson, though he appears to be a low-priced fit for many clubs looking for back-end bullpen help. Sometimes players seek contract extensions, something Lucroy had no success receiving from the Brewers.

In an unusually move the All-Star catcher for the Milwaukie Brewers, Jonathan Lucroy vetoed his trade to the Cleveland Indians on Sunday.

Of Lucroy’s 101 hits, 33 went for extra bases.

“Like I said, I can’t control it, I just focus on the moment, focus on going out trying to win today”, he said.

Cleveland has the choice of two entirely different things here: either a veteran catcher who can manage a pitching staff, or a strong young catcher they have long-term control of.

The deal, at least in the immediate term, would be more important for the New York Mets. Gomez was traded to Houston instead.

General manager David Stearns and manager Craig Counsell met before the game and decided not to start Lucroy.

With their No. 1 catcher withheld from the game to await his fate on the trade market, the Brewers once again beat the Pirates, 5-3, continuing the dominance of their division foe here (63-17 since 2007). “It is why we engage with multiple teams throughout the entirety of the negotiation”.

Lucroy was scratched from the Brewers lineup tonight due to the impending trade rumors and will now be on his way out. We’re all aware of it, we all pay attention to it.

Lucroy is batting.300 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs this season. He has a team-friendly club option worth $5.25 million for 2016, with a $250,000 buyout, per Cot’s Contracts.

“I’ll worry about all that stuff if and when it comes up”.

“I’m not going to comment on any specifics, nothing like that, as much as I’d like to”, he said. “I know he appreciated it”.

There is one last barrier to break through, as Lucroy has a partial no trade clause with Cleveland listed on it. He received a standing ovation from the Miller Park crowd, then flied out to right field in what could be his final appearance for the Brewers.
