‘Ludicrous Mode’? Tesla adds power to already-fast Model S
Tesla ( TSLA ) CEO and wunderkind Elon Musk just announced its Spaceball One “Ludicrous Mode” upgrade for the top-of-the-line P85D Model S electric sedan. Insane Mode amped up the P85D’s acceleration to enable the thing to go from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 3.2 seconds – more than adequate to both blow minds and destroy underpants for most. Dubbed “Ludicrous Mode” in an apparent nod to Mel Brooks film Spaceballs, the new functionality yields one of the fastest auto acceleration times seen yet.

Tesla achieved this new performance enhancements with the development of an advanced smart fuse for the battery.
“It’s faster than falling”, said Musk. Output has been increased from 1300 to 1500 Amps and 0-60 times for the auto will be 2.8 seconds.
Tesla has just unveiled a brand new variant of the popular Model S electric sedan dubbed the P90D. Currently, the Model S P90D will help drive sales of the more affordable Model S 70D. The upgrades will cost $10,000 for new Tesla buyers and $5,000 plus installation costs for existing owners. The Ludicrous Speed option will also require a 90kWh battery upgrade, adding another $3,000. Elon Musk says that after you factor in government incentives and gas savings, the cost is around $50,000. “People love Insane Mode, and it has been incredibly well received – like having your own private roller coaster”.
If you’re eager for substantial news about electronic auto manufacturer Tesla’s forthcoming Model X vehicle, you’re going to have to keep waiting. Tesla ended the first half with 21,552 delivered, or about 40 per cent of the target, as stated by a preliminary count. What little surprises the company has in store for its forthcoming Model X, we’ll soon find out.

Even though Tesla has given the Model S a few attention, it shouldn’t distract people’s attention away from the much talked about crossover SUV, the Model X, which should come out in the next couple of months.
