Lupita Nyong’o had no concept of race until age 20, when she first arrived in the United States.
Lupita Nyong’o dressed “formally” for the first 16 years of her life.
The 32-year-old star actress speaks to Vogue contributing editor Plum Skyes about fashion, fame, family, new projects and lots more. In the latest cover, the Academy Award-winning actress created magic in a gold Valentino couture dress, photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
She also showcases her hula-hoop skills later in the video (while still answering questions of course). Her very creative aunt Kitty would sew clothes for her in those days, Nyong’o recounted. But, she acknowledged that she will always be a child of her Fatherland. “[I was wearing an] eighties red cord miniskirt with suspender straps”, explaining that in her country “presentation is extremely important”. My mother always had her own style. She wore A-line, tea-length flowery dresses, very well fitting.
Indeed, among the classic black and white offerings, Lupita got her wish, with blue and orange hues sashaying down the runway, adding a pop of colour to Wu’s spring/summer 2016 collection.
Meanwhile, Lupita will play a role for the upcoming movie “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens“.
