Lush reunite for first gig in nearly 20 years

Acland died by suicide that year and the band ceased touring and recording although they did not announce their split until two years later.

Last week there were some online rumblings from Lush, one of the remaining United Kingdom bands from the shoegazing era that had yet to thrown their hat into the reunion ring. We wish it could have been sooner but, for many years, it was just too painful to contemplate without Chris, and then all kinds of life-changing commitments made it impossible.

Lush played their last show in Tokyo in September 1996.

Before all that though, their long term label 4AD are planning a few goodies for those not familiar with the band (not forgetting those who feel the need to compulsively collect their material of course). Now, a message from the band’s Miki Berenyi (guitar, vocals), Emma Anderson (guitar, vocals) and Phillip King (bass) that they are set to get back onstage for a performance at London’s Roundhouse venue on May 6. Best Of Lush, as well as a five-CD Lush anthology, bound in a hardcover book, called Chorus which you can purchase in December here. ‘But we all loved what we did, and the time is finally right for us to do it again’. It includes all three of their full-length albums (1992’s Spooky, 1994’s Split, and 1996’s Lovelife), their 1990 early singles compilation Gala, and their 1996 B-sides compilation Topolino (the Canadian version). The artwork is by Chris Bigg, who, alongside design chief Vaughan Oliver, was responsible for the iconic 4AD covers in the Nineties. Yep, the original line up will gather once more – with Elastica’s Justin Welch on drums – for a live show next spring.
