LVG Rules Out De Gea, Praises Midtjylland; Mata Targets Europa Trophy

Manager Van Gaal admitted he was under pressure before the clash with the League One side and so was delighted to secure a straightforward victory.

He said on De Gea, according to the club’s website: “I was hoping for that but he shall not be involved, that is already certain”. If Louis Van Gaal can do the unthinkable and win both the Europa League and the FA Cup, then we believe that he will stay for the next season, before handing over the reins to Ryan Giggs.

“We are in all the competitions, just six points behind Manchester City, we have a lot of chances, a lot of titles to fight for”, he said. After the match, Louis van Gaal hailed the performance and praised his players, as well as revealing a trick he learned from the Midtjylland defeat.

“They have achieved what they have achieved this year and now they play against Man United, which is maybe one of the clubs with bigger history, one of the biggest clubs”, he said.

“In my opinion it is a big game because it is a chance to qualify for the Champions League next year. We knew they would play five at the back, but the most important thing in these types of games is the attitude and if you are ready for the battle, you mostly win, and we did that”.

Shrewsbury came close at the end but Abu Ogogo wasted two fine openings while they struggled to match United.

“At half-time we were a wee bit disappointed but it’s hard to be critical because you’re playing against some unbelievable quality”, he said.

“It’s always the reason I say that top teams have to cope with the resistance of their opponent”.

“It is easy to pick a team for Midtjylland because I don’t have many choices. I was very sad and frustrated because of the game, because of the result and because of our away fans – but not because of the media criticism”.

But former United midfielder Beckham, a key member of many of Ferguson’s victorious teams, told Britain’s Talksport radio on Tuesday: “He (Van Gaal) is an experienced manager with a great reputation in the game”.
