Lydia Ko sets sights on third major title at Women’s PGA Championship

Brittany Henderson hasn’t had a vehicle since sister Brooke bruised her old Honda about a year ago and it went to the great junkyard in the sky.

Lydia Ko leads the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship by one stroke.

Park admitted that up until last week, she didn’t think she was healthy enough to go to the Olympics and said taking part in the Summer Games would only be meaningful if she was in proper form. “This is a very, very special feeling”.

Park’s score of 1-over 72 didn’t really matter.

The first centered around three-time defending champion Inbee Park, who floundered to the tune of an eight-over 79 as she continued to combat “inflammation in the tendons and ligaments around her left thumb”, according to the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). With the completed round, Park became eligible for the LPGA Hall of Fame. Those wins marked her first three victories of her career and vaulted her to No. 10 in the world rankings.

Henderson will now hope to do what she did in the Pacific Northwest a year ago, when she won her first LPGA Tour event in Portland last August.

Veteran Karrie Webb had a 74 and Sarah Kemp a 76. It definitely came quicker than I thought. “And it obviously wasn’t easy to get there”, Park said. I had a great day.

FLOURTOWN, Pa. – Jay Don Blake birdied three of the last five holes at windy Philadelphia Cricket Club for a 2-under 70 and the first-round lead in the Constellation Senior Players Championship.

Park was tied for second at 2 under after rolling in a 20-foot birdie putt on the ninth. She has finished in the top 10 six times this year, including a second-place finish at home in Texas when she was overtaken on the final day. Andrew Landry (Arkansas Razorbacks) also had an even-par 70 and is 1 over.

The 18-year-old struck a seven-iron from 152 yards at the par-three 13th at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington, and then watched in delight as her ball disappeared into the cup. Yeah, the hole-in-one was awesome. And ended up being the auto hole. She acknowledged before the tournament that she has good days and bad days with her thumb, and never knows what to expect. She has won seven major titles – including the last three Women’s PGAs – and has 17 LPGA Tour victories.

Christina Kim and I.K Kim (69) are tied for second, two strokes behind Henderson.

As Jutanugarn walked off ninth green, she stopped to shake the hand of Army specialist Zachary Loughrige, who was tending the US flag that was used in hole.

“With the rain overnight, it made the greens a little softer but it was still tough”, she said.

Top-ranked Lydia Ko had an even-par 71 in a round that featured 14 pars, two birdies and two bogeys.

She became the first Thai victor in tour history three weeks ago in Alabama and followed that up last week with a victory in Virginia.
