Lynch bides time as Broncos veteran QB’s falter
Quarterback Trevor Siemian #13 of the Denver Broncos throws a pass during the second quarter against the Los Angeles Rams at Sports Authority Field Field at Mile High on August 27, 2016 in Denver, Colorado.

If we see the same sort of QB rotation – splitting time relatively evenly between Siemian, who has been given the start, Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch – it will mean Kubiak still isn’t sure who will be the starter at QB. Coach Gary Kubiak said Siemian did 80 percent of his usual workload and is still on track to be the starter against the Rams.
Trevor Siemian completed 10-of-17 passes for 122 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Saturday’s preseason game.
We believe – and Kubiak’s words seem to back it up – that Lynch will end up starting the majority of the games this season for the Broncos.
In only his second start as a pro, Siemian helped the Broncos to a 17-9 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in their third preseason game, one that is annually the most significant but one that, this year, is more so.
The Rams’ defense did not allow second-half points in either of its first two preseason games, and got a stop on Denver’s first series of the second half but not the second. Don’t take that the wrong way, the Broncos could still be a good team.
“I’m looking at what’s taken place the last six months”, Kubiak said”.
“In three playoff games, Ware led the Broncos in quarterback hits with 12 and was a big reason why Von Miller had some room to work at times”. There are business factors at work as well given that Sanchez is slated to count $4.5 million against the salary cap and the Broncos would not have to surrender a conditional draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles if Sanchez was not on the roster to open the season. He was in uniform on Saturday night against the Rams, but he didn’t play a single snap as the Broncos feel confident they know what they have in the veteran.
“Just as time goes by and the more and more I’m in the playbook and the more and more I’m getting reps out here with these guys against a live defense, it comes more naturally to me”, Lynch said.
It was Sanchez’s job to lose when training camp began and he’s apparently done just that with a slew of turnovers in the preseason. Seeing as how even the sharpest of quarterbacks in National Football League history – guys like Manning and Tom Brady – all needed time to adjust to playing in the National Football League, it’s only natural that Lynch would stand to benefit from a “redshirt” year.
The Denver Broncos undoubtedly have one of the best rosters in the NFL-hence that Super Bowl 50 championship and all. However, it might be a good thing to not get thrown into the beast that is a regular season National Football League game right away.
While facing a quarterback as green as Siemian may be a salivating prospect for the Panthers, the primary issue in the Super Bowl loss to Denver came on the other side of the ball. Kubiak said he didn’t think it was serious. “Now I feel like I’m 94 percent”, he said, referring to his jersey number.

With Siemian now and Lynch a little later, the Broncos are playing a smart, unique transition game with their quarterbacks.
