M20 re-opens with 50mph speed limit following bridge collapse
“From what I can tell they are treating one person”, driver Kalpana Fitzpatrick told Sky News. People were getting out of their cars and running towards the bridge. “The last weekend of August is traditionally busy for the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel as people return to the United Kingdom after spending the summer on the continent”, it said.

The M20 in Kent is closed between junctions three and four because of a “vehicle striking a bridge” on the eastbound carriageway, according to Highways England.
“It is believed a lorry collided with a pedestrian bridge which has collapsed onto the carriageway below”, a spokeswoman for Kent police said. We went to have a look and the back end of the lorry was in pieces. “It really shook us up”. They said the 50-year-old man is now in hospital with broken ribs. I just drove. No time to think. It was incredible. It could have fallen right on top of our auto.
On Friday, Kent police had warned motorists to expect a busy weekend as people return to Britain from holidays in continental Europe. Collapsed bridge on motorway!
The M20 is the main route to the Channel Tunnel and the Port of Dover for travel to France and the rest of the Continent.
Traffic is heavier than normal and there are delays on the A20 London Road in both directions between the B2016 Seven Mile Lane at Wrotham Heath and the B2246 Hermitage Lane in Ditton.
“Officers are in attendance along with Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service”.
A motorcyclist was hurt but his injuries are not life-threatening and the driver of the second lorry had to be treated for shock.
