Defense Department personnel and their families who plan to vote by absentee ballot in the upcoming presidential primaries and the general election in November should complete a registration application and request their ballots now, according to a Federal Voting Assistance Program release.

With the delay, the clerk’s office will instead send write-in ballots to those military and overseas voters when they are mailed in the coming weeks.

Anyone who is unable or unwilling to vote at the polling place on Election Day can request an absentee ballot.

If you need to register, you should call or go to your County Clerk’s Office.

County Clerk Kathy Michael and Cathie Haab, BEC assistant executive director, stressed that early voters – a growing percentage of all voters – will still have plenty of options.

Illinois State Board of Elections says the delay is due to ongoing objections to several presidential candidates.

Amanda Barnes, Williamson County Clerk, said once the certification process is complete, it will take local offices a few days to prepare ballots.

“In Georgia, we have a very responsive system for the public that allows voters to cast their ballot at their convenience”.

Objections are pending against Democratic contender Hillary Clinton and Republican candidates Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.

He said moving up the early voting period “wasn’t a mistake because it benefits people in other years” when no presidential candidate is on the ballot.
