MA continuing review of daily fantasy sports
Would this apply to all daily fantasy sports?

Both DraftKings and FanDuel have refuted these allegations in statements, saying their daily games require skill. Both companies have said they intend to fight any shutdown demand in court.
NY attorney general Eric Schneiderman sent cease-and-desist letters to DraftKings and FanDuel on Tuesday, declaring daily fantasy sports are illegal gambling services and shouldn’t be allowed to operate in the state.
“Fantasy sports is a game of skill and legal under NY State law”.
Writing in the comments section on ESPN, Austin Weber perhaps said it best: “They should make the commercials illegal too”. “We’re going to use every avenue we can to stay open”. Another such company, DailyMVP, has announced it won’t accept play from New Yorkers. DraftKings and FanDuel instead opted to cease operations in Nevada, at least temporarily.
Indeed, for years the “daily fantasy sports” industry has escaped the scrutiny of regulators. “We… will examine and vigorously pursue all legal options”. They accumulate points based on each player’s statistical performance in a given day, week or season. Cash prizes grow with the player pool. The current scandal began on September 27th when data about player selections leaked from DraftKings-and then an employee with access to those data won $350,000 in the same week at FanDuel.
A bill that would confine daily fantasy sports betting in Pennsylvania to contests operated by the state’s 12 licensed casinos could gain favor in light of more stringent action in other states, the sponsor said Wednesday. While there is money in fantasy football leagues, many people enjoy playing for fun and bragging rights.
“It shows your depth of knowledge of fantasy football metrics, and knowing those matchups”, says Johncox, a project manager at a construction firm. “It’s all about doing your research”.
“Our investigation has found that, unlike traditional fantasy sports, daily fantasy sports companies are engaged in illegal gambling under NY law”, Schneiderman said.
But if it did go away, media companies would really miss it. Hard to imagine a scenario whereMariah Careyand Kate Upton plug that hole. “The scandal, they can recover from”.
That same page includes a box with the question, “Why is it legal?” “It makes intuitive sense they’d be concerned”.
Schneiderman’s order is an edict for other daily fantasy sports sites in New York’s market, said David Klein, a NY lawyer who advises daily fantasy sports sites on compliance issues. FanDuel estimates that 10 percent of its players are in the Empire State. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and New England Patriots owner Robert Craft each own part of DraftKings. Avi Weitzman, who represents DraftKings, spent seven years in the same office.
FanDuel and DraftKings are still operating.
If you follow sports, chances are you have heard of the online fantasy sites Draft Kings and FanDuel. Entry fees range from 25 cents to $1,000. Both figures were records.
Eccles said all teams who have partnered commercially with FanDuel have been supportive of the company.
The Democrat would not, however, rule out any possibility of the sites being shut down in MA.
“I don’t see it crippling the industry”.

National Basketball Association commissioner Adam Silver has also stood by DFS, but wants enhanced regulation and transparency. “The industry is in a nascent stage, but they’re spending a lot on advertising”.
