MachineGames releases ‘free’ new Quake episode to honor the game’s 20th anniversary

While it won’t take long for Quake fans to get up to speed with Machine Games’ new level, it’s a different story for the upcoming Quake Champions. It was fun way back when it first came out-1996!-and it can still be a fun little romp now, if you’re throwing down some classic gaming with your friends on your local network.

Wolfenstein: The New Order developer MachineGames is celebrating Quake’s 20 anniversary by releasing a new episode that would challenge even the veteran players of the franchise. And, no, MachineGames had nothing to do with the original Quake.

MachineGames is the developer of Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood.

You can download the new DOPA episode for the original Quake at the link below in RAR format.

I’ve played it for a couple of hours this morning, and I still haven’t beaten it. That alone speaks to the way the new episode captures the brutal essence of the series, where death comes quick for the unprepared. Finally, you add the command line parameter “-game DOPA” and save. You can then create a DOPA folder in your Quake directory and extract the PAK file from the RAR and place it in the folder. Double-click on the “dopa.bat” file, and you should be ready to play. Thereafter, they have to click on ‘Set launch options;’ type “-game dopa” into the prompt; and run the game on Steam. Now, launching the game should launch the new episode.
