Now the movie has a leading lady, with Mackenzie Foy on board The Nutcracker And The Four Realms.

The film will be adapted for the screen by scriptwriter Ashleigh Powell from E.T.A. Hoffman’s story about a Nutcracker doll who comes to life on Christmas Eve and introduces Clara to a fairytale world of living toys.

Mackenzie took to her Instagram page to express her excitement about the new role, saying: “I’m so excited and honored to be apart of this unbelievable film”.

Under the cover of darkness, the Nutcracker comes to life along with an evil Mouse King with seven heads, introducing the girl to the magical world of toys and the fearless Nutcracker who will change her life forever.

Mark Gordon will produce with Lindy Goldstein is executive producing.

Technically this is yet another live-action remake of a classic Disney animation, as a famous segment in 1940’s Fantasia was built around the ballet, albeit with little naked fairies doing the dancing.

The original story – entitled The Nutcracker and the Mouse King – was written in 1816 by E.T.A. Hoffmann and later given a lighter adaptation by Alexander Dumas in 1844.
