Macklemore & Ryan Lewis head to Orlando’s Dr. Phillips Center on January 20
Students at Aliso Niguel High School chanted “bring back Mack!” stemming from the principal’s decision to pull the plug on the visit from the hip hop artists.

Steve Granitz/WireImage Parents complained Macklemore and Ryan Lewis promoted drug use and misogyny, but the artists have publicly spoken against drugs and stood up for gay rights. The event will be held after school hours, and students must have signed permission from their parents in order to attend. They’ve started a Change.org petition, which, as of press time, has nearly 3,000 signatures of its goal of 5,000.
“The students of Aliso Niguel won the opportunity to have Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on their campus through the CheggMusic101 series”, said Dan Rosensweig, CEO of Chegg.
Deni Christensen, the school’s principal, said the after school show will go on December. 17. “I am sorry but it was kind of a really bad decision to make”. “He actually does a lot of good in this world for us”.
“We’re supposed to be teaching our kids to think, to take action, to not just stand by and let society dictate to them their values”, she said. While she refused to give further details or explanation, it would seem that the student movement, social media and media coverage have influenced the school to look at the situation again and ultimately helped them decide that it was far more beneficial for all parties involved to reinstate the event. He took to Instagram on Monday to protest and urged fellow students to speak up and spread the word.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have announced a run of USA tour dates for 2016. “We deserve to have our voices heard”.
