Mad Birds 2 launching this month

We’ve had Star Wars raging Birds, Transformer raging Bird and even a new Pokémon-like match three game that, well, has very little to do with raging Birds at all.

The developers will be keen to see raging Birds 2 improve profits that recent dropped 73% in 2014. One would assume that means the iOS App Store will be included in the initial launch (pun intended).

During the intervening six years, Rovio has introduced 14 different raging Birds spinoffs, like raging Birds Rio, raging Birds Space, and raging Birds Star Wars. With a new iteration on the horizon, the mad Birds phenomenon will likely expand even further, drawing more fans and generating more impressive downloads. Perhaps, but considering that it is still Rovio’s cash cow, so to speak, we can’t blame them if they want to keep milking it. In fact after what seemed like countless iterations and variants of the raging Birds franchise, we might finally have a true sequel to the game.

Despite the lofty numbers in gaming, Rovio is no longer the strongest force in a mobile game landscape dominated by the likes of Minecraft and Clash of Clans.

At the franchise’s peak in late 2012, raging Birds games were played by more than 263 million monthly active users, but that total fell to 200 million by September 2014. Last year’s mad Birds Stella did that, and the teaser image features many existing faces (beaks?). Rovio Entertainment opted instead for a host of by-product mobile games, toys and other merchandise. But raging Birds 2’s success will be a key pointer to the company’s future trajectory.
