‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ leads in technical categories at Oscars
DiCaprio was the Oscar front-runner for his portrayal of frontiersman Hugh Glass in the revenge tale. “Mad Max: Fury Road” took home six Oscars, and is also available on Blu-Ray and DVD.

“And the Oscar goes to Leonardo Dicaprio“.
Alicia Vikander won best supporting actress for her performance in “The Danish Girl“.
Alejandro Innaritu picked up the trophy for best director bringing his career trophy count to four. The award for Best Oscar Sound Editing was won by Mark Mangini and David White for the same film. Larson recently burst onto the big screen with roles in indie movies, such as Short Term 12, and blockbusters, like 21 Jump Street and Trainwreck. We’re talking Best Hair and Make-up, Best Sound Editing, Best Film Editing, Production… it just kept winning award after award throughout the night, and there’s a lot of celebrating going on here with the Aussies.
Are you happy with Mad Max: Fury Road’s recognition from the Academy?
Chris Evans, from left, poses in the press room with the winners of the award for best sound mixing for “Mad Max: Fury Road”, Ben Osmo, from second left, Gregg Rudloff and Chris Jenkins.
And here is why we hate to love the Oscars, a flashy, self-congratulatory event that tends to be tiresome and predictable and conservative – too conservative to consider “Fury Road” a film worthy of serious canonization – but is about the thing we love so much, the movies. “I stand here today as a proud gay man and hope we can stand together as equals one day”, said Sam Smith after winning the award for best original song ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ for Spectre along with Jimmy Napes.
The prize was given to the eye-opening film “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness” by director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and was followed by a well-received acceptance speech.
Because it beat the heavyweight likes of Mad Max: Fury Road, the biggest victor of the night, the heavily nominated Ridley Scott offering The Martian, Best Director Innaritu’s The Revenant and fan favourite sci-fi film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
“I’ve always just adored stories…so for me to work with one of the greatest storytellers of our time, Steven Spielberg, has just been such an honor”, he said. Oh, and she also presented the Oscar in the Best Film Editing category to Mad Max: Fury Road along with Hollywood star Liev Schreiber, no biggie. “I don’t take tonight for granted”, he said in his speech. With numerous categories and ultimate winners anyone’s guess up until the end, there were many highlights from the big night. He encouraged the audience to take a pledge: “A pledge that says, ‘I will intervene in situations where consent can not or has not been given.’ Let’s change the culture”. It isn’t some johnny-come-lately attempt to be trendy with climate change or any of the other popular political agendas – it was an idea that sprang from older ground. “So, finally a Best Actor win for Leonardo di Caprio… what a relief!”

The first Mad Max was released in 1979, cost $380,000 to make, and grossed approximately $100 million worldwide. The true story of the Boston Globe’s uncovering of a widespread Catholic priest child molestation scandal was captivating and raw and proved to be a more important film than the others in the category.
