Mad Max: Fury Road takes 6 Oscars to Valhalla
The 58-year-old actor-and-writer made the gag in reference to what Jenny wore to the ceremony after she collected yet another award for Costume Design for her work on Mad Max: Fury Road. Iñárritu is famed for his bad temper, so there’s a good chance he was just annoyed his film didn’t win, but what about the others? His cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki, won his third consecutive Oscar (a first) and Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar after six failed nominations in the past. Even though anyone who really knows how the Oscars pick their winners could never see it happening, a lot of pens hovering over Oscar ballots probably spent an abnormal amount of time hovering over Mad Max. “This was a homage to Mad Max…the scarf was meant to be an oil rag”.

However, in a mild surprise, Open Road Films grabbed the biggest award of the evening – best picture – for the journalism drama “Spotlight”. In another annoying upset, best documentary went to the perfectly decent “Amy” over Joshua Oppenheimer’s deeply powerful “The Look of Silence”, which was distributed by Austin-based Drafthouse Films.
However, Indian-American Pixar artist Sanjay Patel’s animated short “Sanjay’s Super Team”, which tells the story of an immigrant community and “a family of colour”, lost the Oscar to Chilean film “Bear Story”.
The Revenant took three Oscars, all historic in their way. What likely transpired was that the likes of Tom McCarthy and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu did indeed clap and celebrate Beavan’s success, only to have stopped by the time that she finally walked past them and onto the stage, where she then picked up her gong.
Beavan was thrust into the headlines in the days following the 88th Academy Awards when a video of her walking past a host of big names on her way up to the stage to collect her Oscar went viral.
And Alicia Vikander won the best supporting actress trophy for her role in “The Danish Girl”.
Do U think Jenny’s Mad Max-inspired look was inappropriate for Hollywood’s biggest awards show??
Lady Gaga received a standing ovation for her performance of ” ‘Til It Happens to You”, from “The Hunting Ground”. He is only the 3 director in history to capture back-to-back Best Director wins. She previously won for 1985’s “A Room with a View”.
The finale award of the night Best Picture was presented by Morgan Freeman to “Spotlight”.
