Madison police respond to shooting situation at East Towne Mall
Eye witnesses said couple of young men were seen in a dispute in the heart of the mall at the intersects of two major wings. Some say it was multiple shots from the handgun while others had heard just one shot. Jason Cain says police officers were running through the mall with guns as people were being evacuated and stores were locking down.

A 19-year-old man was hurt during a shooting inside a mall in Madison, Wisconsin Saturday afternoon. Madison police said one person was shot in the leg during a “disturbance” inside the mall but his injuries are not life threatening.
“At no time was this an active shooter randomly shooting at people in the mall”, Despain added. “This is not an act of terrorism”, Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain said.
MPD cleared the mall to search for the suspect, but they have yet to locate one.
A 19-year-old man, believed to be part of the initial disturbance, was shot in the leg.
“It’s been described to me as a fairly chaotic scene, as you might imagine with what has gone on in Paris and California”, Despain said, referring to recent terror attacks.
Madison Police spokesperson Officer David Dexheimer told WKOW-TV that the shooting happened around 2:50 p.m. just off center court near the food court area.
The East Towne Mall says it is closed due to an unspecified security issue.
She declined to give her name, citing department policy.
