Madison Police report that the mall was secured at 3:39 p.m. local time, or 1:39 p.m. PST.

One person was shot in the leg and has non-life threatening injuries. “My understanding is it was a chaotic scene”.

“At no time was this an active shooter randomly shooting at people in the mall”, Despain added.

Another Madison shopping center, West Towne Mall, was locked down in February after two gangs got into a dispute which ended in gunfire outside the mall, according to the State Journal.

A shopper Evan Flood said the argument among the young men were high and heated up and before the gunfire a couple of punches were also seen being thrown at each other.

Police said 10 people became involved in a fight.
