Maggie Gyllenhaal to star in David Simon porn industry drama

Gyllenhaal will appear alongside James Franco (The Interview), who is set to play twin mobsters.

Franco will also be producing the show, which “follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s”. She is a Times Square hooker who sees a window of opportunity opening in the porn industry.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is going from The Honorable Woman to a lady of the night.

Playing the part of a sexually liberal character isn’t unfamiliar territory for Gyllenhaal. She previously starred in Secretary, a black comedy film that explored a relationship involving BDSM.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has officially joined James Franco and David Simon in their HBO porn drama “The Deuce”. The drama is being written by Simon and Pelecanos, with Nina K Noble and Richard Price involved as executive producers. Gyllenhaal is also a producer along with Marc Henry Johnson who is instrumental in documenting the era.

Between its impressive team and promising plot, we’d be surprised if The Deuce didn’t get a full series order.

Filming is scheduled to begin next month (Oct15). Simon wrote the pilot with longtime collaborator George Pelecanos, and Michelle MacLaren – best known for her work on Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead – handled its direction.
