Maggie Smith accepts Emmy award, responds to Kimmel’s jokes
Dame Maggie Smith said she was “astonished” to win another Emmy as she issued a playful response to Jimmy Kimmel’s jokes about her repeated failure to attend the awards show.

The 81-year-old actress wasn’t in Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater to pick up her Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series accolade on Sunday night (09.18.16), prompting the host to joke he was going to put her prize in the “lost and found”.
If she was truly busy and had made a prior commitment (like the Sunday Ceramics Class Kimmel mentioned in his monologue), it would have been rude to cancel simply because she had been nominated for an award.
What are your thoughts on last night’s Emmy Awards ceremony and Kimmel’s performance?
Emmy Awards host and USA late night chat show personality Jimmy Kimmel made jokes at the expense of Donald Trump, Jeffrey Tambor and, of course, Matt Damon.
“When Maggie Smith finds out she’s been awarded with an Emmy she has the same reaction we get when we get Bed Bath And Beyond coupons in the mail”.
It was the third time she had received the award for playing the countess, having won her first Emmy for her leading role in My House in Umbria in 2003.
Smith may have not been there to respond but she did so, the next day, via the Twitter account of Masterpiece PBS which airs the show in the US. I feel the Emmys have been overly gracious to me.
Indian-American Aziz Ansari shared a writing Emmy with Asian-American Alan Yang for their comedy series “Master of None, ‘ while black actress Regina King won for her role in ‘American Crime” and African-American comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele were honored for their sketch series ‘Key & Peele’.

“She goes to other awards! If Mr Kimmel could please direct me to the lost and found office I will try and be on the next flight”, the actress wrote, signing the note “Old Maggie”. Why do we keep nominating this woman?
