Maggie Smith: ‘I’m glad Downton Abbey is over’
What’s just as interesting as the events happening on the screen, though, is the admission by Maggie Smith that she has not even seen the show that she appears on. Dame Maggie Smith doesn’t sound like the biggest fan of Downton Abbey.
Speaking on tonight’s (30 October) edition of ‘The Graham Norton Show’, Maggie says: “I’m glad it’s over, I really am”.
The veteran star also said that the role, along with her part in the Harry Potter films as Minerva McGonagall, had changed her life.
When she admitted she hasn’t watched Downton…
Away from Downton, Maggie is gearing up for the release of her upcoming movie The Lady in the Van. “One child asked me, ‘Were you really once a cat?’ and I heard myself say, ‘Pull yourself together, how could I have been!'”
Also starring Alan Jennings and James Corden, the film follows the story of a man who forms an unexpected bond with a transient woman living in her auto that’s parked in his driveway. There were a lot of small people who said hello, which was nice.

80 year old Smith, who plays the irrepressible matriarch Violet Crawley in the ITV series, spoke to the ‘Graham Norton Show’ on the BBC on Friday night (October 30th) about how she’s pleased to finally wrap up the popular drama.
