British comedian John Oliver won the outstanding variety talk series award for Last Week Tonight, beating James Corden’s Late, Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Amid the deja vu, a few newcomers made it to the podium.

Tatiana Maslany won a long-earned Emmy for lead actress in a drama for her role on BBC America’s “Orphan Black”.

As it did in 2015, HBO led the platforms in the winners’ circle, with 22 wins, followed by FX Networks with 18. Bush says before kicking Mr. Kimmel out of the vehicle.

Aziz Ansari doesn’t get to make his acceptance speech. “Our show started out as a political satire”, she said, “but it now feels more like a sobering documentary”. We are not mailing this to her!

Host Jimmy Kimmel opened Sunday’s show with a string of jokes about Republican presidential contender and former “Celebrity Apprentice” star Donald Trump.

But the most scathing criticism of Trump came from “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway, who won the award for best director.

“That guy”, he said, pointing to Burnett.

“I’m recommending that we get rid of all Muslim and Mexican people from the ceremony”. Now, here are the highlights, from one of Hollywood’s biggest nights. It’s the second year for both winners. He later added, “Television can also tear us apart”. However, with those shows finished and Game of Thrones showing no signs of declining quality, it not only won for the first time past year, but it received its second consecutive award for Outstanding Drama Series on Sunday night.

We know people care more about who you’re wearing than who actually wins an Emmy, but history was made Sunday night at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The top comedy was once again Veep – with its star Julia Louis-Dreyfus taking home her fifth consecutive “Best Actress” gold. This was her third win as the formidable dowager.

“She showed up at the Oscars to get an Oscar. If Mr Kimmel could please direct me to the lost and found office I will try and be on the next flight”, she said in response to his ribbing, ending her message with: “Love, Old Maggie”.
