Magic rally in 4th quarter, down Nets 100-93
Washington Wizards forward Jared Dudley (1) and Orlando Magic guard Mario Hezonja (23), from Croatia, scramble for the rebound in the first half of an NBA basketball game, Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, in Washington. The Orlando Magic point guard has recorded 17 games with 10 or more assists, but has never topped 29, something that his head coach, Scott Skiles, did 25 years ago on Wednesday. After that game, Nets players said they were disappointed by their effort and their lack of fight. “We didn’t focus, we didn’t work to get open, we didn’t work to get in the positions you need to get in and in the last five minutes of a game, you’re a little exhausted and sometimes that is what pressure will do to you”.

Orlando got some good news on Friday morning when standout point guard Elfrid Payton was cleared to play. Shabazz Napier started the second half and Payton sat out the remainder of the game, which might have impacted their offensive flow.
Without their primary ballhandler facilitating offense in the half court, the Magic struggled at times to find a rhythm on offense.
Orlando tried several different lineups while searching for some cohesion, with 12 of the 13 active players seeing action.
Brooklyn led 73-68 going into the final period, but hit just seven of 20 shots, committed four turnovers and allowed Orlando to shoot 52.9 percent when the game was on the line. “We were there for each other, we were scrappy defensively”.
The Magic (19-13) continued their season turnaround with Wednesday’s 100-93 win over Brooklyn to conclude a 3-1 homestand on which they shot 41 percent from 3-point range. Lopez finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds.
The Nets scored six straight to take a 67-55 lead with 5:46 left in the third quarter when they suddenly got sloppy with the ball and let Orlando back in the game. A short while later, Victor Oladipo was fouled and made the two subsequent free throws. “Every time we play them it’s a pretty close game and a pretty tough game so it will be a very good game for us to play against them in London as well”.
But the Magic scored nine consecutive points.
ABOUT THE NETS (9-22): Hollins was frustrated with his entire starting five at the half on Monday and made a decision to push Ellington and Shane Larkin off the bench in the third quarter.
The Orlando Magic look to keep rolling after winning seven of their last 10 games. Much like their previous meeting in Washington, Wizard big man Kris Humphries picked apart the Magic in the final quarter, scoring all 11 of his points in the final 12 minutes.
It was Washington’s 11th straight win – three this season – over the improving Magic, who entered with a 13-5 record since November 25, best in the Eastern Conference.

One of the beneficiaries of the Magic’s recent rotation changes has been fourth-year forward Andrew Nicholson.
