According to USGS, the quake occurred 109 kilometres (67 miles) west of the Sola village, which is the capital of Vanuatu Torba Province. The area has been struck by two similarly sized quakes – on Sunday and on Wednesday.

The tremor wasn’t felt in the capital.

The USGS initially estimated the quake’s magnitude at 6.9 before revising it down to 6.7.
