Renault team principal Fred Vasseur said he was relieved that Magnussen had been unhurt, but wanted to wait another day before being sure his driver would be all fine.

With smoke pouring from the wreck, Magnussen was able to get out of the vehicle on his own, although he was seen limping from the scene as stewards moved to clear debris. Sliding off backwards, he made heavy impact with the tyre barrier and the vehicle was destroyed. He underwent checks at the medical centre before being taken to hospital.
Following initial checks at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Magnussen was taken to hospital for further checks to a cut ankle following his massive crash at Raidillon in which he hit the tyre barriers after losing control of his vehicle. Magnussen’s left ankle was injured on impact, and he has been sent to a local hospital for further evaluation.
After several laps behind the safety auto, the race was red flagged to continue fixing the damaged tyre barrier. The impact was so severe, his cockpit head protection surround came loose and flew clear of the vehicle.
The Grand Prix had seen a huge amount of drama in the opening laps.
The race was then red flagged due to the amount of damage to the tyre wall.

In the race itself, Mercedes man Nico Rosberg was leading from Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo, Force India’s Niko Hulkenberg and McLaren’s Fernando Alonso.
